The deal’s not done yet, but city officials are already celebrating the Denver Housing Authority’s move to buy a 194-room hotel in the northeast corner of the city.Once the housing authority closes on the property, the Best Western Central Park hotel at 4595 Quebec St., the city will lease it and use it as a homeless shelter before eventually converting it into permanent supportive housing for people exiting homelessness. The purchase price is just shy of $26 million, according to the city and the housing authority. Those 194 rooms could play a big part in helping new Mayor Mike Johnston get closer to his ambitious goal of offering housing to 1,000 people living on the city’s streets before 2023 is through. Denver leaders have placed an increasing emphasis in recent years on providing non-congregate shelter options — places where unhoused residents have private rooms with greater privacy and safety than traditional homeless shelters.Tapping the Salvation Army ...Authorities in Orange County searching for bank robbery suspects

The nearly decade-long battle to get American veterans access to medical cannabis continued on Capitol Hill this week. With the exception of seeing little kids with extreme forms of epilepsy like Dravet’s Syndrome, nothing went further in changing the national conversation around medical cannabis than supporting vets with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This movement was a direct result of first-hand experiences with medical cannabis safety and efficacy when it came to PTSD, as more veterans continue to take their own lives. In its own 2017 study on cannabis and PTSD, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) noted over one-third of patients seeking cannabis for medical purposes list PTSD as the primary reason for the request, and 15% of VA patients at outpatient clinics are using medical cannabis in the last six months. Cannabis Caucus founder Rep. Earl Blumenauer picked the fight up this week, to get vets access to cannabis. He originally started pushing the effort in 2014. In 2016,...49ers QB Roll Call: Purdy more accurate on second straight day of passing

Here is a recap of how he and the other three quarterbacks performed:BROCK PURDYAll 18 first-team snaps went his way, just as all 21 did in Purdy’s practice debut Thursday, meaning that his arm showed no ill effects or required any extra rest in his valiant comeback. His best throw was among his final ones: a 25-yard completion to Deebo Samuel over the middle after Purdy’s play-action methods had him turn his back to the defense, then rotate around to find Samuel. He wrapped up a 6-of-12 passing line with his third completion of the morning to Christian McCaffrey. A day after going 3-of-10 with an interception, Purdy nearly had a pass snagged by nickel back Isaiah Oliver as he converged on tight end Brayden Willis. Purdy’s other completions went to Br...Latest news
